Sunshine

Description

In 2057, the sun is dying. A crew of eight pilot a colossal nuclear bomb aboard the spaceship Icarus II with the intent to jumpstart the sun. As they pass Mercury's orbit, Icarus II discovers the distress beacon of Icarus I, the first ship to attempt their mission, which disappeared seven years earlier.

What we learn

When the conflict of opinions arises on the ship, the team resorts to vote and to choose among the options presented. However, it is here when Dr. Searle reminds them that they should not vote as if this were a democracy, and in fact, it was not even in the hands of the captain opt for that decision, but in the hands of Capa instead, because he was the physique of the ship, and who knows how to operate and detonate the bomb; object of the mission. In the context of the situation, the phrase "this is not a democracy" shows us the main lesson of this film. Are we all eligible enough to cast vote on a matter of vital consequences?
